Why was my card declined?
A card transaction may be declined because of:
- Insufficient available balance
- Unsupported merchant category
- Country or region restriction
- Card limit
- Failed 3D Secure or OTP
- Fraud or risk controls
- Merchant pre-authorization
- Issuer or network rules
- Technical issue
How do refunds work?
Refunds arrive back on your card automatically, just as they would with any Visa card. When a merchant issues a refund, the amount is returned to your main balance in USDC, and you will see it in your transaction history.
Timing depends on the merchant: refunds typically take a few business days to reach your balance after the merchant processes them, since they travel back through the Visa network. There is nothing you need to do on your side.
If a card payment is cancelled before it completes, for example a cancelled pre-authorization or a hotel hold that is released, the held amount is simply returned to your available balance, usually faster than a full refund.
If a refund a merchant promised has not shown up after a couple of weeks, contact us at support@eliospay.com with the merchant name and the original transaction, and we will trace it with our issuing partner.
